Step Back in Time at the PA Renaissance Faire
Huzzah! Bands of knights, medieval royalty, merry makers and minstrels will present the 44th season of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, located on the beautiful grounds of the Mount Hope Estate in Manheim. Be transported to a time and place far away for entertainment, stage shows, live music, shopping, games and food – all inspired by Europe's rebirth after the Middle Ages. The annual festival begins in mid-August and runs for 11 weekends through the end of October and is located just 20 miles from The Lancaster Bed and Breakfast.
From the moment you step through the castle gates, you’re no longer in Pennsylvania. You’re in a 16th-century English shire sprawled over 35 acres and filled with costumed performers, artisan merchants, and all the turkey legs your heart desires.
The faire features over 90 stage shows daily, ranging from epic jousts to hilarious improv comedy. Grab a seat at the human chess match, where costumed “pieces” battle it out with swords and wits, or cheer for your favorite knight during a heart-pounding jousting tournament. The performers don’t just stay on stage, either; they roam the village, engaging with guests and bringing the fantasy to life in unexpected ways. You might find yourself in the middle of a sword fight or recruited for a makeshift band of merry men (or women).
The food at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is legendary. Sure, you’ve got your classic turkey leg (a must-try), but there’s so much more. Fuel up at one of the Royal Kitchens and Pourhouses with Scotch eggs, curry wurst, and even a pickle on a stick — plus plenty of traditional fair favorites. Wash down your feast with locally produced craft ale, cider and wine — after all, this is also a winery. Try a hearty Swashbuckler beer or one of Mount Hope's delightful wines.
Shopping at the faire is an adventure in itself. The village is packed with over 100 merchants selling handmade wares, from leather armor and hand-forged swords to intricate jewelry and period clothing. You can also immerse yourself in the time period with workshops and demonstrations on archery, blacksmithing and glass blowing. Whether you’re looking to deck yourself out in full Renaissance garb or just take home a unique souvenir, you’ll find something that catches your eye.
If you’re looking to escape the ordinary and dive headfirst into a world of knights, fair maidens, and royal delights, the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is calling your name. It's where history and fantasy collide! Embrace the spirit of the festival by coming dressed in apparel befitting the era. Tickets must be purchased in advance (no gate sales), and parking is free. Just a quick drive from the festival grounds, The Lancaster Bed and Breakfast is happy to offer the perfect accommodations at our historic inn for your weekend of medieval merriment.
